In
the photos above, notice the smooth look to the
fledglings' feathers as opposed to the softer
look of the nestlings' feathers. The fledgling's
tail is about 1 inch long. The smooth feathers
and longer tail are good indications of a bird
that has left the nest and that just needs to
be on the ground for a day or two to learn how
to fly.
